I am an accordionist, entertainer and instructor with over 40 years’ experience.
As a youngster, I joined and performed with an accordion band, The Junior Accordionaires. As a band we played to a variety of audiences throughout the length and breadth of the UK. We also performed for a Yorkshire television programme called Junior Showtime.
I have since formed and played in two accordion show bands – DMD accordion show band and The Tropical Waves. These show bands performed within West Yorkshire at a number of venues, which included residential and nursing homes, fêtes, hospital psychiatric units and clubs.
Once I became a solo accordionist I continued to entertain within residential and nursing homes. I also used my musical talent within churches for weddings, funerals, remembrance services and outreach. I have also performed at several school assemblies and within colleges.
Within Ontario I have entertained at a number of nursing homes in Woodstock, London, Ingersoll, Mitchell and Tavistock. Further bookings are confirmed for nursing homes in Stratford, Cambridge, Brantford. Aylmer and Kitchener.
I have performed as a street entertainer (busker) in London (UK), Halifax (West Yorkshire), and Worksop (Nottinghamshire). I have also busked on behalf of College Avenue Secondary School thereby raising money for their gym floor replacement campaign.
Many of the songs and tunes I play are unforgettable hits, that have been performed and recorded by many different stylists, both vocal and instrumental, and by different types of orchestras, from swing to symphonic. I include only a few contemporary songs within my show. The reason for that is that many recent songs do not translate comfortably to a solo accordion. Their complex rhythms and bass guitar lines cannot be duplicated, and the electronic effects that can be produced on a recording cannot be approximated. All the songs and tunes that I play stand on their own as melodies. The songs and tunes that I include within my show have endured, and will continue to endure.
In depth articles appeared in the Woodstock Complete Market Exposure and the Sentinel Review newspapers. The content of the articles may be accessed through my website.
My website http://tinyurl.com/yvfgla is constantly updated. Links to You Tube and Google video will allow you access to a number of ‘live’ performances within Ontario.
I had the privilege to appear and perform on a Roger's television programme, 'Daytime', introduced by Tracey Andrus and Brad Janssen. The following quote was made by Brad Janssen at the close of this programme,"(Ian) is certainly a craftsman with the accordion." I have also played on the Heart FM breakfast show.
Allow ‘The Accordionist’ to provide you with ‘a musical experience that will remain a lasting memory’.
